Fun and Friendly Competition Between Neighborhood Groups
STOCKTON, Calif. –  The City of Stockton Community Services Department is introducing a new, fun and friendly, competition between neighborhoods – the Stockton Community Games. These events are free and open to the entire community. Neighborhoods associated with their local Community Center will compete in 12 events: 3-legged races, a 40-yard dash, free throw contests, cornhole, giant Jenga, hula hoop, football accuracy throw, pickleball, relay races, soccer kick, tug of war, and wiffleball home run derby.

“We’re not all athletic, but everyone is good at something,” said Kris Farro, Community Services Director. “Sure, we expect there to be some ringers who are especially good at certain events. The fun is competing across neighborhoods – all skill levels and age groups – with the opportunity to ultimately represent your neighborhood at a city-wide competition and possibly be crowned champion…until next year when you have another opportunity to become the reigning champion or “medal” in your selected activity.”

Community members participate by registering for various activities at your local Community Center. Community Centers will coordinate participants who want to get together and practice or polish their skills. The winners of the qualifying rounds will be invited to compete against the other Community Center qualifiers. Championships are awarded under each of the 12 competitions, with one, overall reigning championship for the neighborhood placing highest in the most events.

“We’ll host the Stockton Community Games annually,” continued Director Farro. “We’re really excited to see everyone having fun, learning about other neighborhoods, and building relationships with others throughout Stockton. As they say at the Olympics, “Let the games begin!””
