|
Measure U was placed on the November 4, 2008 General Election ballot to modernize the communications portion of the City of Stockton Utility Users Tax. The Measure passed with 61.54 percent voter approval. This is an existing tax; the rate will not change. This Measure simply updates and continues an existing tax that communications users have been paying for years.
Primary sources of revenue for the City are property tax, sales tax, business license tax, motor vehicle licenses, franchise fees, and utility users tax. Since 1969, the residents of Stockton have paid a utility users tax. The tax on communication services provides approximately $11.65 million in annual revenue to Stockton’s General Fund - a major source of revenue for Stockton.
The City Council ratified the November 4, 2008 election results December 9, 2008.
