Curbs, Gutter & Sidewalks

The City's Public Works Department oversees construction and repairs of curbs, gutters and sidewalks along the public right-of-way. Stockton Municipal Code requires these right-of-way improvements to be the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. 

The State of California Streets and Highways Code, Section 5600, requires property owners to be responsible for maintenance of: 

• sidewalk, including parking strip, curb, and gutter, adjacent the private property,
• sweeping and removal of debris and weeds, and
• repair and replacement of sidewalk, if needed.

Damaged Sidewalks

The Public Works Department is responsible for damage caused by City trees only.
