Solid Waste and Recycling -
Green Waste and Food Waste Collection
Curbside Services
Green waste and food waste are collected using a 90-gallon wheeled cart with a GREEN lid. This service is included in your monthly service cost. (This cost is based on the trash cart size YOU choose. For a list of service rates, click here.)
Each cart is serviced weekly when placed at curbside on your designated service day. To see when your service day is, click here.
Containerized Green Waste Collection
The State Water Board directed the City to stop collecting green waste, including leaves, in the street. Green waste placed in the street can clog storm drains and pollute Delta waterways killing fish. To maintain compliance, all green waste must be containerized for removal. |

Food Waste Collection
The list of items acceptable in the City's Green Waste/Food Waste Cart has been increased to help us keep more things out of the trash and out of area landfills.
ALL food including all leftovers, meat, fish, bones and food-soiled paper (i.e. used napkins and paper plates) can be placed in the 90-gallon wheeled cart with the GREEN lid.
-
Who can use the expanded food waste collection program?
This program is for everyone: all residents, multi-family dwellings and businesses.
-
How should I collect food waste for disposal?
For convenience, food waste may be placed in a PAPER BAG (not plastic) before adding it to your Green Waste/Food Waste Cart. Since paper is biodegradable, paper milk cartons or newspaper can also be used to collect or wrap food scraps.
-
What happens to the collected food waste?
The material will be used to make compost, a soil enhancer, or used at the landfill as alternative daily cover (ADC). Remember, paper is biodegradable, so any paper milk cartons or newspaper you use to collect or wrap food scraps will also be composted.
-
What else can I put in the Green Waste/Food Waste Cart?
Listed below are all of the items that you can put into your 90-gallon wheeled cart.
