March Lane-El Dorado Street
Improvement Project
El Dorado Street is one of the City’s heavily traveled north-south
corridors included in the Stockton Streets
Improvement Project (SSIP). The approved specific plan encompasses
the widening of El Dorado Street between Yokuts Avenue and Bianchi
Road to accommodate, in general, three northbound lanes, two
south-bound lanes, and dual left-turn pockets at major intersections.
Due to overlapping work areas, the El Dorado Street Widening
Project was combined with the March Lane/El Dorado Street
Intersection Improvements Project which is funded with Federal
Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funds. The intersection
improvements will add an additional east/west bound traffic
lane on March Lane near El Dorado Street.
Once the improvements have been completed, March Lane will have a total of three eastbound and three westbound lanes through the March Lane/El Dorado Street intersection.
At project completion, traffic will flow more smoothly through the intersection and improvements to the roadway and traffic signals will increase the general safety of motorists and pedestrians. During construction, traffic will be maintained through the project area.
Scope of work:
The project scope will include the following:
- Add a through lane on eastbound and westbound March Lane, near El Dorado Street;
- Add a dedicated right-turn lane on westbound March Lane onto northbound El Dorado Street;
- Add a dedicated right-turn lane on eastbound March Lane onto southbound El Dorado Street;
- Add a dedicated right-turn lane on northbound El Dorado Street onto eastbound March Lane;
- Widen El Dorado Street to three through lanes in each direction from Jamestown Street to the Yokuts Avenue intersection; and,
- Realign and landscape the medians.
One lane will be maintained in each direction on the frontage road
on the west side of El Dorado Street, as well as the two dedicated
left-turn lanes onto Yokuts Avenue from El Dorado Street.
