Eight Mile Road-Interstate 5 (I-5)
Interchange Improvement Project
Project Purpose:
The general purpose of these improvements is to enhance the
existing interchange operations and safety, and to accommodate
current and future capacity needs. With the anticipated increase
in traffic resulting from the Spanos Developments east and west
of I-5, and other developments in the North Stockton area, these
interchange improvements are essential to facilitate acceptable
level of service (LOS) operations and improve safety at the
interchange.
Project Description:
The project proposes to widen Eight-Mile Road to an eight-lane facility
through the I-5 interchange and add approach and departure lanes
at the freeway ramps/surface street intersections. The project
also includes traffic signal installations at both intersections
of Eight Mile Road and access ramps. The project will reconstruct
the northbound and southbound off-ramps to two lanes and will
also widen the northbound on-ramp to two lanes and the southbound
on-ramp to allow for three lanes with ramp metering.
A public art component consisting of an oak tree branches relief
pattern is also incorporated in the tie-back-wall construction.
Construction began in April 2004 with completion expected mid-September 2005.
