Stockton Police Department
- Having a Party?
Both
your neighbors and the Stockton Police Department recognize
your right to have a social gathering or
party.
Along with that right, however, comes certain responsibilities, including
the following:
- The
gathering will be peaceful and law abiding.
- Music
and/or noise will not disturb nearby residents.
- The
gathering will end without any disturbances.
|
The
responsibility of controlling the gathering or
party is yours; however, the Police
Department will intervene and assume responsibility
when necessary. Examples of the need for police
intervention are listed below:
- Neighbors
complain of excessive noise, illegal parking,
damage to their property, or any other unusual
activities.
- A
police officer on patrol observes any of
the same types of activity.
- The
person giving the party calls because he
or she has lost control of the gathering.
(If this occurs, do not hesitate to call
the police. Police officers are trained to
bring the situation under control and disperse
unruly guests.)
|
Repeated
calls to the same disturbance limit
the availability of officers to respond to critical,
life-threatening calls, so it is important that
you maintain control. The following tips can
eliminate the need for police intervention and
help ensure everyone has a good time:
- Tell
your neighbors in advance that you are planning
a social gathering, and ask them to call
you if they have any problems.
- Contact
the Police Department if any problems arise
at your gathering.
- Do
not allow under-age guests to consume alcoholic
beverages.
- Go
outside occasionally to make sure the noise
is not too loud or no undesirable activity
is taking place.
- If
it becomes necessary to leave the gathering
for a short time, leave a responsible person
in charge during your absence.
- Only
allow individuals you know to attend the
gathering.
- Don't
leave valuables lying around.
|
| Taking
these few steps can help make your party a positive
experience for all. |
