The California Vehicle Code and City of Stockton ordinances are in effect and enforced at all times. Citations will be issued according to the printed and posted regulations.
If you are driving Downtown, take a moment ahead of time to plan where you will park. The City of Stockton's Central Parking District has put together a Web page with information concerning parking to help you with this task.
Here are the most common parking violations in the City of Stockton:
Parking Within Stall Markings
A person's entire vehicle must be inside the painted parking stall markings. If your vehicle is not completely inside the stall markings, this is a violation. Stall markings can be solid white lines for angled parking or they can be small plus (+) symbols as in the following photographs.

Never Park or Leave your Vehicle:
- Where a "No Parking" sign is posted.
- On a marked or unmarked crosswalk, on a sidewalk, or in front of a driveway.
- Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant or a fire station driveway.
- On or within 7 1/2 feet of a railroad crossing.
- On the wrong side of the street.
Other tips:
- Use of Streets for Storage of Vehicles is Prohibited: You must move your car every 72 hours.
- Prohibited Advertising on a Vehicle: You cannot place a "for sale" sign on your car and park it on a public street.
- Parking of Vehicles Without Motive Power is Prohibited: You cannot park your trailer on the street unless it is hooked up to a vehicle, then it must be moved every 72 hours.
- Limited Parking Zones: If a sign is posted limiting the amount of time one can park in a designated area, you must move your car after the displayed time. You cannot continue to feed the meter.
