A
message from the Seaport District Commander
Lieutenant Jim Ballard
Seaport
District's boundaries are generally south of the Crosstown Freeway
to the south city limits and west of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks
to the west city limits. To view a map of the six Districts, click
here. The Seaport District took in part of the old Gateway District
and about half of the original Park District. The Downtown and Magnolia
Historical Districts (part of the old Gateway District) were combined
to create the Civic Center District.
The
Seaport District combines industrial areas, including the Port of
Stockton, with large, diverse residential areas such as Weston Ranch.
Weston Ranch is the largest residential development project in Stockton
with 5,056 proposed units built on 1,177 acres. Because of the District's
rapid growth, policing needs are also growing, and the City of Stockton
has plans to establish a police facility within the District.
Seaport District Officers embrace the Community Oriented Policing
and Problem Solving (COPPS) philosophy, and we are fortunate that
residents of the District take an active role in working with us to
resolve problems and improve the quality of life in the Seaport District.
There are a number of very active community groups and neighborhood
action teams within the District including: St. George's Neighborhood
Betterment Committee (one of Stockton's oldest and most established
neighborhood betterment committees), the Weston Ranch Organizing Committee,
the Eighth Street Neighborhood Watch Group, the South Stockton Merchants
Association, the Columbus Park Neighborhood Watch Group, and the Grant
Area Neighborhood Action Team. Sergeants and Officers assigned to
the Seaport District regularly attend meetings of the various neighborhood
groups and collaborate with members of the community to identify and
resolve issues important to the community.

The Seaport
District staff include directed Patrol Officers who
address community concerns, two Community Police Officers
who work in partnership with the San Joaquin County
Housing Authority to provide police services in the
Conway Homes area, a Senior Community Service Officer,
a Community Service Officer and a compliment of Sergeants
and Police Officers who provide police services to
the District.
