Stockton Police Department - Reserve Police Officer Program

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Entry Level Reserve Police Officer (Level 1 or 2) and Lateral Reserve Police Officer (Level 1 or 2).

RESERVE PROGRAM

The Stockton Police Reserve Program has been in existence for over 50 years.   The Stockton Police Reserve Program is a volunteer program with many of the exciting benefits that come along with full-time employment.   Training requirements and state mandates require Reserve Police Officers to maintain the same level of competency as a full-time Police Officer.   Our program has 13 Reserve personnel volunteering their time to supplement full-time Police Officers in the City of Stockton.

In addition to 13 Reserve Police Officers, the program has 1 full-time Reserve Program Coordinator and 1 full-time Reserve Program Manager.   The duties and responsibilities of the Reserve Program are at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

REQUIREMENTS

All applicants for Entry Level 1 must have completed the P.O.S.T. Basic Law Enforcement Academy.   Entry Level 2 applicants must have completed the P.O.S.T. Module II and P.O.S.T. Module III.

Other requirements include:

  • Must be 21 years of age on or before appointment date.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and has applied for, citizenship.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and have automobile insurance coverage.

  • Must reside within 45 minutes of the Stockton Police Department.
  • Must pass a psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, background investigation, and medical examination.

Lateral Reserve Police Officer Level 1 or 2 cannot have any break in service, which means during the transfer, the Reserve Officer must remain appointed at his/her current agency until after he/she is sworn in as a Stockton Reserve Police Officer.

All applicants must successfully complete a P.O.S.T. Field Training Officer (FTO) Program.   Failure to complete training will automatically disqualify the Officer.

Stockton Police Department will supply all uniforms and equipment.

DUTIES

Upon completion of FTO training, Level 1 Reserve Police Officers will perform the same duties as regular Police Officers and have full Peace Officer Status while on duty.
