Operation Peacekeeper ProgramOperation Peacekeeper Collaboration Grant Program 2007 Meet the Youth Outreach Staff... What is the Operation Peacekeeper Program?Peacekeepers are youth outreach workers whom are street-wise young men and women, some of whom have been in gangs themselves. The outreach workers are trained in conflict resolution, mediation, community organizing, mentoring, and case management. They work in neighborhood settings wherever young people at risk of violence are found; including schools, parks, street corners, and apartment complexes. Peacekeepers build the bridge between the youth, their families with a collaboration of government and community based organizations to accomplish the mission and vision. VisionThe vision is to build mentoring relationships with youth who have the highest risk of gang involvement, particularly serious gun related violence and provide positive alternatives for a healthier non-violent lifestyle. HistoryThe Operation Peacekeeper Gang Outreach Program has a high local profile. It has been in place since 1998 in Stockton and has played a key role in local efforts to reduce gang homicides from a high in 1997 of 22, to 2 in 1998 (a 91% decrease.)
