Peacekeepers Youth Outreach Workers are street-wise young men and women. The outreach workers are trained in conflict resolution, mediation, community organizing, mentoring, and case management. They work in neighborhood settings wherever young people at risk of violence are found; including schools, parks, street corners, and apartment complexes.
Peacekeepers build the bridge between the youth and their families, with a collaboration of government and community based organizations to accomplish the mission and vision.
Meet the Youth Outreach Staff...
The vision is to build mentoring relationships with youth who have the highest risk of gang involvement, particularly serious gun related violence and provide positive alternatives for a healthier non-violent lifestyle.
The Operation Peacekeeper Gang Outreach Program has a high local profile. It has been in place since 1998 in Stockton and has played a key role in local efforts to reduce gang homicides from a high in 1997 of 22, to 2 in 1998 (a 91% decrease.) Each year of 1999-2003 there were five or less each year.
