Swimming Lessons

 

Class Descriptions
Classes are taught Tuesday through Friday. Lessons are 35 minutes each day for two weeks (eight lessons in each session).

WATER BABIES (ages 6-36 months): A Red Cross parent and child aquatics program providing a nationally standardized format that will promote water safety practices, aquatic adjustments, swimming readiness skills, fun and enjoyment in the water. Parent is in the water with the child. A child must wear close-fitting plastic pants or a swim diaper under their swimsuit

WATER SPRITES (ages 3-5): A beginner class specifically for 3-5 year-old children. Emphasis is on water adjustment, safety and basic Red Cross beginner skills. Each child progresses according to their own ability. Each child must be capable of working independently with an instructor in a group situation.

SUPER TOTS (ages 3-5): For advanced 3-5 year-old children who have achieved Level 1 skill. Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Level I. The student will improve Level I skills and work further on a consistent rhythmic breathing pattern as well as deep water exploration and safety skills.  Unsupported prone and back kick glides are learned, proper kicking techniques, finning, back crawl arm action, crawl stroke and additional skill development.

LEVEL 1/TADPOLE (ages 4+): The student practices bubbling and breathing skills, prone and back floating, proper kicking technique and elementary locomotion skills. Alternating and simultaneous arm and leg action, personal safety and rescue technique demonstrated.

LEVEL 2/GUPPY (ages 4+): Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1. The student will improve Level 1 skills and work further on a consistent rhythmic breathing pattern, as well as deep water exploration and safety skills. Unsupported prone and back kick glides are learned, proper kicking techniques, finning, back crawl arm action, crawl stroke and additional safety skill development.

LEVEL 3/BLUEGILL (ages 4+): Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 2. Emphasis is on improving Level 2 skills, jumping, diving entries and crawl stroke with a consistent breathing pattern. Students work on elementary back stroke and the coordination of the back crawl, beginner diving technique, endurance, personal strength and adding to safety skills.

LEVEL 4/SHARK (ages 4+): Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 3. Perfect previously learned skills, swimming front and back crawl. Introduction to breast stroke, sidestroke, kicking technique and more advanced survival skills.

LEVEL 5/BARRACUDA (ages 4+): Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 4. Designed to refine strokes already learned, increase endurance and introduce diving progressions, butterfly and advanced personal safety.

LEVEL 6/DOLPHIN (ages 4+): Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 5. Designed to refine and build endurance using strokes already learned.
