Powerful Teen Social Manners

So you know how to say please and thank you, but how comfortable are you in unfamiliar situations? Entering the adult world with social skills will get you ahead, and keep you there. It's important: 80% of business is done over meals. Learn to deal with any situation comfortably, including jobs, formal dinners before prom. job fairs, and professional mixers. Workshops feature snacks and prizes.

Getting and Giving Respect

4-6 p.m. Seifert Center
Participants will recognize the various behavioral actions and reactions to become a successful, mannerly conversationalist. Learn new techniques to communicate with opposite behavioral styles to successfully avoid conflicts, disagreements and rudeness. Instruction includes the Art of Talking to Anyone, conversation starters and endings, and respectful networking and persuasive conversations in a business setting. Also, the importance of appropriate questions and compliments will be covered.

Tuesday, March 11

Table/Dining Etiquette*

4-6 p.m. Seifert Center
As much as 80 percent of business is done over meals! Teens become prepared and confident to attend any special or business occasion (prom, awards banquets, family celebrations and student trips) with manners from this workshop. Everything you ever wanted to know about appropriate table and dining etiquette, even in a restaurant of at an appetizer buffet. Class includes food for practice.

Business Etiquette

4-6 p.m. Seifert Center
This workshop will help you develop, update and fine-tune your communication skills to be totally prepared and comfortable in professional situations, particularly during an interview. Increase your confidence and credibility and gain insight on how to handle those nervous moments. Be prepared for networking opportunities with appropriate introductions, the art of the handshake, powerful nonverbal expressions, business card protocol and more professional dos and don'ts.
Fee    

March 11: $20 for workshop    (*$4 materials fee)

April 21: $15 for workshop

Creating Mother's Day Smiles

Bring a smile to your Mom, Grandma, Aunt or other special lady by creating a Mother's Day gift while practicing your manners and learning even more manners through games and music. Each participant will create and take home a chocolate gift.

This free activity class will give you a chance to show your skills by creating a sweet gift out of chocolate and give you a chance to practice those manners and discover new ones that moms think are so important. kids will learn through playing "Are you Smarter Than A Bad Manners Monster" game to win a tasty prize.

Instruction will include answers to the following:

  • How do manners give me power and make me strong?
  • Why are manners important and necessary for success?
  • What 21 manners do adults think are the most important?
  • What manners can you use when others are rude?

Beyond Please and Thank You (BPT) is the brainchild of Mary Claire Attebery, who finds creative ways to make learning about appropriate social behaviors fun!

In BPT classes, children and teens learn how to make a difference in their personal, social, and school relationships through manners, promoting positive communication and social interaction.
