Neighborhood Renaissance Program

The Neighborhood Renaissance Program (NRP) is a community-based approach to neighborhood rejuvenation stemming from Mayor Chavez’ directive to rethink traditional means of City service delivery at his 2007 State of the City address.  The program is patterned after the highly successful Strong Neighborhood Initiative in San Jose and Neighborhood Renaissance Program in Minneapolis.

The Redevelopment Department has taken the lead in the NRP and contracted with Moore Iacofano Goltsman, Inc. (MIG) to assist in developing a strategic plan for the program.  MIG has worked with Stockton on several public outreach efforts and was part of the San Jose neighborhood program.  The “Neighborhood Improvement Strategic Plan” by MIG was completed in June of 2007.

To compliment the NRP, staff worked with Kirchhoff & Associates to prepare the “Neighborhood Renaissance Program Staffing Assessment Report” that was completed in October of 2007.  This report assessed the understanding and ability of each City department to participate in the NRP.  An action plan for further training and changes that should be made to accomplish the City-wide goals of the NRP will be developed on a parallel track.

Purpose of the Neighborhood Renaissance Program

The purpose of the Neighborhood Renaissance Program (NRP) is to build strong neighborhoods by developing community leadership and working collaboratively with residents to deliver city services and neighborhood priorities.

The goal of NRP is for all residents to enjoy a high quality of life, safe from crime, with clean streets, access to parks, libraries and services, and active participation in City government.
