Stockton Arts Commission Announces 2010 Grants Awards Program

(Stockton, CA) - Applications for the Stockton Arts Commission's annual grants awards program are available on the City of Stockton web site at www.stocktongov.com/arts. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 16, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. Applicants must mail the application in time to be received by the deadline or hand-deliver the application to City of Stockton, Community Services, 6 E. Lindsay Street, Stockton, CA 95202.

The Commission will host two technical assistance workshops to help applicants understand how to complete the grant process. The workshops will be held on Wednesday, March 3, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday, March 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Both workshop sessions will be held at the Cesar Chavez Library Stewart Hazelton Room located downtown Stockton at the main library, 605 N. El Dorado Street.

All Stockton-area creative individuals and groups are encouraged to apply for the arts grants, made available through an endowment developed by the City of Stockton in 2001. Visual artists, photographers, musicians, film-makers, dancers, writers, music educators and collaborative groups are all encouraged to apply.

This year, 60 percent of the grants are earmarked for programs or events focused on youth.

"Grant applications must be filled out thoroughly and completely in order to be considered for funding," shares Commission Endowment Committee Chair Msgr. Harmon Skillin. "It is important to attend one or both of the workshops and bring your printed grants guidelines packet, as this is the only opportunity to receive assistance with the grants process."

For additional information, please call (209) 937-7488 or visit www.stocktongov.com/arts.
