2010 Award of Excellence Program Nominations
(Stockton, CA) - The City of Stockton Cultural Heritage Board and Planning Commission are requesting nominations from the public for the 2010 Award of Excellence Program. Nominations are due by March 25, 2010. Nomination forms are available on the City of Stockton web site at www.stocktongov.com or by contacting the Community Development Department at (209) 937-8444.
These awards are bestowed on property owners who have made special efforts in restoring, rehabilitating or improving existing homes and businesses, or, in the imaginative design of new construction. The award recognizes single-family and multi-family residences, nonresidential buildings, and features, such as landscaping and art in public places.
The purpose of the award is to encourage improvement and beautification efforts in our community and to recognize special undertakings by property owners. Restoration efforts help to exert a positive influence on the entire neighborhood and provide an incentive to other property owners in upgrading their property. These accomplishments are sought out by the Planning Commission and Cultural Heritage Board for public recognition.
The Award of Excellence Program has been in existence since 1967. In the past 40 years, 300 homes, businesses and sites have received the Award of Excellence. Nominations are screened by the Cultural Heritage Board, a nine-member citizen body. The final selections are reviewed and awarded by the Planning Commission to property owners in a public meeting.
Please submit nominations to Cultural Heritage Board, c/o Community Development Department, City Hall, 425 N. El Dorado Street, Stockton, CA 95202. For additional information or a copy of the nomination form, please contact Christine Fipps at (209) 937-8444.
