Stockton Fire Retains Class 1 Rating
(Stockton, CA) - The City of Stockton Fire Department is proud to announce that it has retained its Class 1 Rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). Since 1971, Stockton Fire Department (SFD) received a departmental Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office - the highest rating attainable. The SFD is one of 55 fire jurisdictions and departments with a Class 1 rating out of 47,000 fire jurisdictions and departments throughout in the United States.
The National Insurance Services Office (ISO) collects information on municipal fire protection efforts throughout the United States. In each community, ISO analyzes the relevant data using its Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). It then assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC) from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents exemplary public protection and Class 10 indicates the area's fire suppression program doesn't meet ISO's minimum criteria.
By classifying a community's ability to suppress fires, ISO helps the community evaluate its public fire protection services. The program provides an objective, country-wide standard that helps fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training. By securing lower fire insurance premiums for communities with better public protection, the PPC program provides incentives and rewards for communities that choose to improve their fire fighting services.
