Final Countdown to Purchase Flood Insurance

(Stockton, CA) - Effective October 16, 2009, many property owners in Stockton and San Joaquin County will be required to have flood insurance. Insurance must be secured by October 15, 2009, to obtain discounted premiums; policies obtained after October 15, 2009, will be at significantly higher premiums. Flood insurance is available for commercial and residential property owners and renters.

Property owners who are uncertain as to whether or not flood insurance is required may view Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMS) by accessing a Flood Map Viewer on the San Joaquin County web site at www.sjgov.org/pubworks, or, link to the maps from the City of Stockton web site at www.stocktongov.com/flood.
Flood insurance is highly recommended for all property owners; it is mandatory for properties within the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) with a loan, note or mortgage from a bank or lending institution that is federally insured.

For additional information or to confirm flood zone designation information, please contact the City of Stockton Community Development Building Division for properties within the City of Stockton at (209) 937-8561, or, San Joaquin County Public Works Flood Management Division for properties within the county at (209) 468-3060.
