City Opens Newest Community Center Named in Honor of Former Mayor Arnold Rue
(Stockton, CA) - The City of Stockton will open the Arnold Rue Community Center, its newest center, on Friday, December 5, at 1:30 p.m. Built to better serve North Stockton, the new state-of-the-art center is located at 5758 Lorraine Avenue in Panella Park at Amaretto Street.
The family of Arnold Rue and honored guests will participate in a ribbon cutting at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments and guided and self-guided tours will follow.
The center is named after former Stockton mayor Arnold Rue who passed away on November 29, 1989 at the age of 78. He served 16 years on the City Council from 1967 to 1983, four times as mayor for half of those years.
The beautiful new building, funded by grants and the Strong Neighborhood Initiative, boasts 15,000 square feet of space featuring two class rooms, a multi-use room, a multi-court gym, dance and aerobic room, fitness room, kitchen and concession area. In addition to these usual amenities the center offers a library room with library services available, and a police report writing room where neighborhood police can come to write reports. Also featured is a public art work by Portland artist Mary Josephson. The vibrant mural panels depict all of the recreational and agricultural icons of the San Joaquin Delta and its diverse community members, in a colorful and powerful palette.
