Boaters Asked to Avoid Buckley Cove Use

STOCKTON - The Stockton Parks and Recreation Department is asking area boaters to use Louis or Morelli Park boat launching facilities instead of Buckley Cove boat ramps this summer due to ongoing construction.

The Louis Park facility is located west of I-5 on Monte Diablo Avenue . The Morelli Park boat launch area is located on Weber Avenue, west of Lincoln under I-5.

Improvements at Buckley Cove are expected to begin in mid-June and may continue through December. The construction window has been dictated by the California Department of Fish and Game in order to protect the spawning cycle of certain species of native fish.

The Buckley Cove improvements are being funded by the California Department of Boating and Waterways. Improvements will include the demolition of the existing raised concrete gangways and installation of new articulating floating docks like the most easterly dock system installed several years ago; removal of launching ramps and replacement with wider ramps; extending the existing ornamental iron security fence to enclose the entire parking lot; and re-striping and landscaping the parking lot.

For more information about City of Stockton boat launching facilities, contact the Stockton Parks and Recreation Department at 937-8206.
