Sports Commission seeks to fill vacancies
STOCKTON – Applicants are sought to fill vacancies on the Stockton Sports Commission’s Board of Directors. The Sports Commission is the City of Stockton’s 25-member sports promotion, event marketing organization.
Applicants will be interviewed by the Sports Commission Nomination Committee, selected by the full Board, and appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The new board members will be seated at the July meeting. Appointments will be for full four-year terms.
The application deadline is June 2, 2008. Application forms are available from the Sports Commission office, 6 E. Lindsay St., at the City Manager’s office in City Hall, 425 N. El Dorado St., by calling 937-5058, or from the City’s website at http://www.stocktongov.com/commissions/vacancies.cfm.
Applications may be returned in person to the Sports Commission office or mailed to: Stockton Sports Commission, 6 E. Lindsay St., Stockton, CA 95202.
Board members are volunteers who have demonstrated an interest in working to bring sporting events and tournaments to Stockton. Members meet monthly to evaluate and determine the most effective way to allocate assistance towards local events and attracting major events that bring business and positive recognition to our city.
The Sports Commission is responsible for over $13 million in economic impact annually to our city through sports business attraction. Some of these events have been National Softball Tournaments, CIF Wrestling, State Basketball and Volleyball Championships, USA Karate Qualifier, ESPN BassMasters, and Special Olympics.
