Stockton solicits names for new community center

STOCKTON  - The Stockton Parks and Recreation Commission is soliciting names for the new community center being built at Panella Park at Lorraine and Amaretto.

The deadline for names is Friday, May 16, 2008.  All proposed names must be submitted in writing, along with appropriate justification, to Stockton Parks and Recreation Department, 6 E. Lindsay Street, Stockton, California, 95202-1997.  The name, address and telephone number of the person submitting the nomination should be included.

Proposed names should have geographic, topographic, historical or individual significance that is recognized and known throughout the area.

The new community center at Panella Park is a 19,700 square foot facility that includes a gymnasium, meeting rooms and police reporting station.  The center is slated to open late this summer.  The project is partially funded with Strong Neighborhood Initiative Redevelopment Bond proceeds.

Previous nominations can be re-submitted.  The Parks and Recreation Commission will review all names received, in addition to a listing of names previously submitted, and forward recommendations to the City Council for final approval.  For more information, please contact the Stockton Parks and Recreation Department at 937-8361.
