Stockton Arts Commission offers grants through endownment

STOCKTON - The Stockton Arts Commission invites city artists, arts educators and non-profit arts organizations to apply for grants available through the City Endowment for the Arts program.

The $1.3 million dollar City Endowment for the Arts was established in 2001 by the City Council specifically for local arts funding.  Interest from the endowment allowed for $50,000 in grants to be awarded in 2007.  The fourteen grants awarded ranged from $1,000 to $6,000.

The deadline for submitting grant proposals is March 28, 2008.  Funds will be awarded in July for projects taking place between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.   A final report is required 30 days after the completion of the project.

Two workshops will be held in February to assist applicants with grant preparation.  Interested applicants are urged to attend one of two sessions: February 23 from 9 to 11 a.m.; or February 27 from 6 to 8 p.m.  Both workshops will be held at the Philomathean Club, 1000 North Hunter Street (at Acacia).  Please call the Stockton Arts Commission at (209) 937-7488 to register for the free workshops.

Grant guidelines and applications are available at the Stockton Arts Commission office, 6 Lindsay Street or at http://www.stocktongov.com/arts.  For additional information, contact the Stockton Arts Commission at (209) 937-7488.
