All Fireworks Illegal in Stockton
(Stockton, CA) - The City of Stockton would like to remind residents that all personal fireworks are illegal in Stockton. With the exception of large fireworks displays produced under a special permit from the Stockton Fire Department, there should not be any fireworks in Stockton. Even those labeled “Safe and Sane” by the State Fire Marshal – and available in surrounding communities – are not legal in Stockton.
Stockton passed an ordinance prohibiting fireworks in April 2007. State law addresses the manufacturing and date and time of sales of fireworks, requiring local ordinances to control sales and use.
The July 4th holiday is a very busy time for public safety. Responding to reports of fireworks takes public safety personnel away from other emergency and urgent calls for service. Possession or use of fireworks can result in a citation or arrest. In addition, when fireworks are confiscated, the Stockton Fire Department must turn them over to the State for destruction, resulting in additional operational costs.
To report the illegal use, sale, or transport of fireworks, please call the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377. Report emergencies only by calling 9-1-1.
