California Cougars Will Continue to Build Inaugural Season Roster

Westport, Conn. - The California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League will continue assembling their inaugural season roster on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 with the California Cougars Expansion Draft, MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan announced today. The draft will commence at 3:00 p.m. (EST), 12:00 p.m. (PST), and will be conducted via telephone conference.

"I have a game plan going into this process," said Cougars Head Coach Troy Dayak. "I've been turning over every rock in this area, looking for the best players for the Cougars. I've been in contact with coaches from this area and around the country. In just the last week, I've probably watched 25 MISL game tapes from last season, and I am spending 10 to 12 hours a day scouting players in preparation for this exciting Draft and the season."

The California Cougars received Designation Lists from each of the seven current MISL operating teams on June 10. Team lists designate a maximum of 11 players as "protected" for that team's roster (maximum of one (1) goalkeeper) for the 2005-06 MISL season. The players not designated as protected ("unprotected") are eligible for selection by the Cougars, who will draft a maximum of 16 players (two goalkeepers permitted) from MISL rosters.

Players selected in the 2005 MISL College Draft are excluded from the California Cougars Expansion Draft. Current MISL teams may lose a maximum of three (3) players during the Expansion Draft. Once a player is selected from an existing team, the team will be allowed to return one (1) unprotected player to its protected Designation List.

In order to ensure the validity of the Designation Lists, a "Trade
Moratorium" was imposed 14 days prior to the Expansion Draft and will end immediately following the conclusion of the Expansion Draft.

The Cougars will play their inaugural season in 2005-06 at the Stockton Events Center, a state-of-the-art, 10,000-seat arena that will open along the waterfront in Stockton, California in November.
