Stockton-San Joaquin County Announce New Library Director
(Stockton, CA) – Natalie R. Rencher has been named the new Director for Stockton-San Joaquin County Library Services. Ms. Rencher, who recently served as the Interim Library Director for the San Diego County Library system, will assume her position in August.
“We are very pleased that Natalie has agreed to join us here in Stockton,” said Mark Lewis, City Manager. “She comes to us with a wealth of experience in areas that are our focus, such as programs for youth, capital projects and facilities planning. It is a great match for both Natalie and the communities we serve.”
Manuel Lopez, County Administrator, shared, “I am pleased with both the process and the selection of Natalie. We look forward to working with her throughout the County.”
Ms. Rencher holds a B.S. in Child Development from San Diego State University and a Master’s in Library Science from San Jose State University. She began her career as a Library Technician in 1978 and has worked in three large urban library systems, San Diego Public, San Jose Public, and San Diego County serving in the positions of Children’s Librarian, Youth Services Coordinator, Branch Manager and Principal Librarian of Capital Projects and Facilities. Ms. Rencher has spent the majority of her career in San Diego. She is currently the Deputy Library Director of San Diego County Library and has served as the Interim Library Director in 2005. Throughout her career, Ms. Rencher has demonstrated a commitment to customer service, community, and working with diverse populations.
Ms. Rencher shared the following about her personal style and philosophy: “I have a strong commitment to move libraries outside their visions and unite behind the visions of their communities. It will be my goal to be proactive in responding to the fluctuating needs of the community and enthusiastically, work with all people living in rural and urban settings, especially with diverse and underserved populations. Stockton-San Joaquin has the potential to build library facilities that reflect a mix of private, public and non-profit partnerships. I anticipate collaborating with city officials, city staff, community organizations, and our library staff to leverage resources that will enhance the economic well being of our city and county. As a youth advocate, I understand the role of education and public policy in addressing issues that relate to promoting and fostering child and youth development. I am looking forward to serving the residents of Stockton-San Joaquin County.”
Ms. Rencher replaces Nicky Stanke who retired as Director of Stockton-San Joaquin County Library Services in March of this year. Patty Wong, Deputy Director of Library Services for Stockton-San Joaquin County, is Interim Director until Ms. Rencher arrives later this summer.
“We’re looking forward to having Ms. Rencher join our team,” said Patty Wong, Interim Director. “Her skills will definitely be put to good use with our plans for Sunday hours at the Cesar Chavez Library downtown Stockton and our partnership with Manteca Unified. This region has made libraries a priority - an exciting time to be at the helm.”
