Stockton's
New Teen Center Opens
( Stockton , CA )—
The
new Gary and Janice Podesto IMPACT Teen Center , 725 N. El Dorado
Street, will open to the public for the first time Wednesday,
March 23 at 4 p.m. The community is invited to tour the newly
renovated facility and get a sneak preview of upcoming activities
and site amenities, conceptualized and designed by the City
of Stockton Youth Advisory Commission (YAC). Facility features
include a climbing wall, computer room, a multi-purpose/ basketball
half-court area, classrooms, and a four-lane bowling alley.
“The new teen center is awesome,” says Youth Advisory Commission
Chair Cristina Fortney, “we want everyone to come and check
it out – teens, parents, our younger brothers and sisters who
will be teens someday, teachers…anyone with an interest in what
teens in Stockton are up to.”
The
renovation of the old El Dorado Bowl building into a state-of-the-art
teen hangout was funded by a $2.2 million dollar grant through
the California State Parks and Recreation Department's Murray-Hayden
Urban Youth Services program.
The
facility will be managed by the Boys & Girls Club of Stockton
through a partnership with Stockton Parks and Recreation. The
Youth Advisory Commission will act as an advisory board.
The
grand opening celebration will include tours, food, fun, and
