Employment Benefits
The
City of Stockton provides an excellent benefits
package for its full-time, regular employees.
Specific benefits may vary depending on bargaining
unit. However, most employees are eligible for
the following benefits:
Retirement
The retirement program includes benefits under the Public Employees'
Retirement System (PERS), 3% at age 50 for safety employees, and 2%
at age 55 for miscellaneous employees. The City pays the full employee
contribution and the employer contribution.
The City also provides a retiree medical plan for retiree and one dependent. The
City also provides a Medicare Supplemental Plan at age 65, upon meeting
eligibility requirements.
Deferred Compensation
The City provides deferred compensation, 1% to 5.5% for some, bargaining
units. Employee contributions to deferred compensation are optional
for all bargaining units.
Health Plan
The City provides excellent medical, dental and vision programs
for employees, spouses and eligible dependents. Some bargaining
units are also eligible for a management or annual physical benefit.
Holidays
Employees receive 14 paid holidays per year, including birthday. Fire
Unit employees have holiday pay rolled into their base salary.
Vacation
Employees earn 10 to 25 days of vacation per year for the first year
to 18 months, depending on bargaining unit. This benefit progresses
based on length of service thereafter.
Sick Leave
Most employees earn 15 days of sick leave each year, with unlimited
accumulation. Fire Unit receives 15 hours per month. Employees
will receive payout of 50% of unused sick leave upon retirement. The
remaining 50% is reported to PERS for additional service credit.
Education Incentive Pay
The City provides 3% Education Incentive Pay for educational degree
above and beyond that required for the position. A waiting period applies
for some bargaining units.
Life Insurance/Long-Term Disability
The City provides a life insurance benefit. The amount varies
by bargaining unit. Most bargaining units also received a long-term
disability benefit plan. Police and Fire sworn units are eligible to
purchase long-term disability through their bargaining units.
