The
Delta King and the Delta Queen were fitted in Stockton using hulls
manufactured in Scotland. They were the largest steamships built
in Stockton by the California Transportation Company before the
construction of the Deep Water Channel in 1932. Each ship cost nearly
one million dollars.
However,
the Delta King was unable to show a profit and was sold to a mining
interest in Kitimat, British Columbia where it was used as a bunk
house. It was returned to Stockton in 1958 to be used as a restaurant,
then was seized by the U.S. Marshalls in 1966 before being restored
circa 1990.
