Susan Lofthus is serving her first term as a City Councilmember, representing Council District 3. She was elected in November 2014, for the 2015-2018 term of office.
Susan is currently working at New Directions, Alcohol & Drug Awareness Program, as the assistant to the Executive Director. She was a bodily-injury claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance for 18.5 years, having recently retired. Prior to working in the insurance industry, she was a Human Resources Manager for San Joaquin Packaging and a Pacific Bell Service Representative for 15 years.
Susan has been a lifelong volunteer. Most notably, she served on the Board of Directors for New Directions, Alcohol & Drug Awareness Program for 21 years with 10 years as their Board President. Susan is completely immersed in her responsibilities as a Councilmember and is willing to share her experiences as someone who is new to everything political, municipal and governmental.
Susan's current Council Committee assignments include: Vice Chair of the Community Improvement and Crime Prevention Committee, City Water Committee, "2x2" Joint Committee for the City and Lincoln Unified School District, and "3x3" Joint Committee for the City and the Port of Stockton. In addition, she is a member of the Delta Coalition, the Delta Protection Commission, the Mokelumne River Water and Power Authority Policy Committee, the San Joaquin County Council of Governments Board, San Joaquin County Council of Governments Project Development Subcommittee, and the Stockton Convention and Visitors' Bureau. She serves as an alternate member to the League of California Cities Central Valley Division Executive Committee, the Northeastern San Joaquin County Groundwater Banking Authority, and the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District-Advisory Water Commission. Susan is also the City Council's Liaison to the LGBTQ community, Liaison to the City-County Port Committee, and Liaison to the City-County Transit District.
Councilmember Lofthus serves on the Board of Trustees for Humphrey's College.
Since joining the City Council, Susan has made the following appointments: Planning Commission (Elizabeth Hull), Measure A Committee (Susan Bartman), Charter Review Action Committee (Erin Guy Castillo), and Water Advisory Group (Allie Stevens).
Susan is married to Jon Gauthier and together they share three adult children and one young child.
Councilmember Lofthus holds her monthly Community Office Hour the first Wednesday of every month from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
