Fire Prevention Division

How can we help you?
Ask Stockton - questions, comments

The primary objective of the Fire Prevention Division is to reduce the risk of fires and safeguard the lives, welfare, and economy of the community. We provide many services such as code enforcement, fire safety education, fire investigation, fire hydrant maintenance, and special and technical services such as plan checking and issuing fire code permits.

The Division is overseen by a Deputy Chief who is also assigned to the position of Fire Marshal. Additional sworn personnel include two Captains, one Deputy Fire Marshal/Inspector, and a non-sworn civilian who handles Weed Abatement complaints and Public Education.  Two non-sworn positions assist staff. A third Captain handles arson investigation and reports to the Fire Marshal.

The Fire Prevention Division personnel work in the Permit Center, which is located at 345 North El Dorado Street, along with Community Development Department, the Planning Division and Building Division. This one-stop location makes life easier for both business owners and contractors.

The Hydrant Division has one Hydrant Supervisor who maintains approximately 7,000 hydrants and inspects underground installations for new hydrant systems and sprinkler systems.
