Stockton Fire News and Information

North Stockton Quail Lakes Neighborhood - June 10, 2008

Red Cross Volunteering at FireOn Tuesday, June 10, 2008, the most significant fires in the history of Stockton damaged or destroyed over 30 homes.

Firefighters fought what turned out to be 3 separate fires in neighborhoods and along Interstate 5. Homes in the Sunpointe Condominium complex and single-family homes off Round Valley Circle in the Quail Lakes neighborhood were destroyed or damaged, while a separate blaze on Malvern Court, off Plymouth Road, destroyed a triplex. The cause of the fires and the full extent of damage are not yet known.

Investigators will be working throughout the day to make that determination.

“It was a tremendous effort between Fire and Police, and the entire community,” said Mayor Ed Chavez. “We are extremely fortunate that there were not more homes affected. Now, we must focus on the needs of the individuals and families impacted.”

Quail Lakes Baptist Church provided immediate shelter to evacuees and offered both facilities and resources to the American Red Cross and the City of Stockton, allowing evacuees to register and connect with family members. Overnight care and shelter was provided by the American Red Cross and Lincoln Presbyterian Church. The Salvation Army provided food and beverages to those on the scene of the fires.

Those impacted by the fire may contact the San Joaquin County Chapter of the American Red Cross for assistance.

To assist the victims of the fire, both the Red Cross and the Salvation Army will accept monetary donations. Both organizations are not able to accept in-kind donations, due to a lack of storage. Monetary donations can be delivered or mailed to:
