Function:

Provide direction, set goals to accomplish and recommend to the City Council regarding, without limitation to: Promote the City in the sporting and hospitality community;
Support the development of youth sports programs; Stimulate the economic development through sponsorship of current and anticipated sporting events;
Improve the quality of life for the community through education and participation in sports events;
Provide a variety of first-class spectator participant, and volunteer sporting activities for youth and adults;
Maximize and unify community resources to enhance sporting events/activities; attract international, national, and regional events, as well as sports-related businesses and activities to the Stockton area; Bid for and host major school, amateur and professional sporting events; and perform such other related duties and functions as the City Council may from time-to-time direct or otherwise authorize the Commission to administer or coordinate on behalf of the City.

Membership:

Executive Board composed of an Executive Committee of twenty-five (25)

Honorary members: One-Year term appointed by the Executive Board; an individual and/or entity which supports the Sports Commission financially or in other manners

Residency Requirements:

Must be a resident of the City of Stockton or own and/or operate a business within the City or is a sponsor or associated with a sports related event

Remuneration:

Travel/associated costs shall be reimbursed when incurred in the performance of duties while away from the City in accordance with the City's travel allowance policies, provided appropriations for that travel have been included in the Commission's budget and approved by the City Council.

Minimum Qualifications:

Be a representative and accomplishment in one or more sports fields or work outside of professional practice in sports fields--demonstrate a deep interest/appreciation of sports activities; or recognized for knowledge of, experience in, or interest in sports; or collectively, provide a cross-section distribution among the major sports fields with consideration given to recommendations by groups interested in sports fields within the City; or Ex-officio members, without voting rights, may be appointed by the Mayor with concurrence of the City Council, to aid, assist and advise the Commission.
