| Background on Council Community Improvement & Crime Prevention Committee The first Graffiti Abatement Committee met on December 13, 1994, to announce the City Council had approved the Council Drugs/Crime Committee’s recommendation to establish a Graffiti Abatement Committee, whose duties and responsibilities were as follows:
From January 1995 thru November 1996, the Committee became known as the Joint Ad-Hoc Council Graffiti Abatement Committee and Graffiti Abatement Task Force. Then on March 25, 1997, the newly formed Council Community Improvement and Crime Prevention Committee met, with Chair Gloria Nomura, Vice Chair Ann Johnston, and Member Larry Ruhstaller. Chair Nomura stated the direction of the former committee had now expanded from focusing on mainly fighting graffiti, to addressing crime prevention and community improvement efforts as well. |
