Meeting Minutes

Opening Comments:

The meeting was called to order by Fabrizio Sasso at 3:40 p.m. He informed the committee that the next meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2006, at 3:30 p.m. and will be held at the Cesar Chavez Library at 605 N. El Dorado Street, Stewart Hazelton Room.

OPEN DISCUSSION:

Mr. Sasso introduced Kristen Rinaker of the San Joaquin Mediation Center. Ms. Rinaker informed the committee that the Mediation Center is a nonprofit organization that provides dispute resolution for neighborhood issues and could be a useful tool to law enforcement to aid in reducing conflict in the community.

Lieutenant Mike Evans, Stockton Police Department was introduced and provided a PowerPoint presentation outlining narcotics activities and trends in Stockton.

Captain Armondo Moyoya, Task Force Commander of the San Joaquin County Metropolitan Narcotics Task Force (METRO), an agency that utilizes undercover officers and supervisors from a local, state, and federal level to combat narcotics issues in San Joaquin County, provided a PowerPoint presentation on the Task Force’s mission and the dangers and impact of drug abuse to society.

CLOSING COMMENTS:

The committee expressed concern with the growing problem of illegal drugs and its affect on the community and suggested discussing ways to combat the problem at a future meeting.

Mr. Sasso thanked the guest speakers and reminded the committee that today concluded all scheduled presentations. The direction of the committee will be discussed at the next meeting on April 12th.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
