City Hall Tour - Points of Interest

Photo of Police Memorial There are several other downtown points of interest to mention here. The police memorial, dedicated to those officers who have given their lives in the line of duty as peace officers for the City of Stockton, is located in front of the Police Department building at 22 East Market.

Weber Point Events Center, with construction completed in time for the July 4th festivities in 1999, is located at Weber Point, original site of the home of Captain Charles M. Weber, founder of Stockton.

Photo of the interactive water feature at Weber Point Its interactive water fountain is a major attraction for the community, especially during the summer heat, and the shade structure is the site of many community and private events, ranging from concerts to wedding receptions. With picnic tables, a children's play area, a maze, a promenade around the entire point, and trees to provide much needed shade, Weber Point will be a focal point for the community for many years to come.
Photo of the time capsule burial Features of the Weber Point Events Center include a time line for the history of Stockton, a footprint of Weber's home, and public art to mark the site of the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule, buried on July 24, 2000, in observance of the City's 150th birthday, with an anticipated opening in July 2050, the City's 200th birthday. The benches and light fixtures along the walkways have been donated by private citizens.

Photo of City Hall with bannersOver the north and south entrances to City Hall hang banners proclaiming Stockton's designation as an All-America City for 1999, one of ten chosen that year as a result of a nation-wide competition. Stockton received the All-America City Award for the work our community has done to create new jobs, reduce crime, improve the Delta's environment, and revitalize our downtown.

These goals were accomplished through the cooperative efforts of citizens, community leaders and government working together to improve the quality of life in our city. While there will always be more work to do, it is our community-wide vision, energy, leadership and citizen involvement that makes Stockton a great place to live.
