Business License Application Requirements
You may need to obtain documents, signatures, or permits from one or more of the following agencies. Please contact those that apply to you or your business. All forms and documents must be issued in the same business name and address as the business license application.
- Planning, Building, and Fire Department Signatures Required
For businesses within Stockton city limits - Contact the City of Stockton Permit Center at (209) 937-8266, 345 North El Dorado Street, Stockton, California, 95202.
- Fictitious Business Name Statement – Required if your last name is not part of the business name, or if you are using a DBA.

- Seller’s Permit (Resale Number) – Required if you intend to sell or lease merchandise ordinarily subject to sales tax. Both wholesalers and retailers must apply for a seller’s permit.

- Federal Identification Number (Employer Tax I.D.) – Required for partnerships/corporations.

- A current Letter of Exemption (501c3), or letter of good standing from the Internal
Revenue Service.
