2002 Phoenix Awards Winners Announced

Harrisburg, PA (August 30)
The Executive Committee of the national Phoenix Awards for Excellence in Brownfield Redevelopment have announced this year’s Phoenix Award winners. The 2002 Phoenix Awards will be presented during Brownfields 2002 in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 13-15, 2002.

The Phoenix Awards are nationally recognized as the outstanding award for achievement of excellence in brownfield redevelopment. Created in 1997, the prestigious Phoenix Awards honor individuals and groups who are working to solve the critical environmental problem of transforming abandoned industrial areas into productive new uses.

The 2002 Phoenix Award winners represent the outstanding brownfield project from each of the 10 US Environmental Protection Agency regions. This year, two Community Impact Award winners will also be recognized. The awards ceremony will be held on the last day of the national conference. At this time, the regional and Community Impact Award winners will be honored and the 2002 Phoenix Awards Grand Prize will be announced as well as the winner of the People’s Choice Award. The People’s Choice Award will be presented to the project that receives the most votes during the conference.

This year’s recipients are:

EPA Region 1: PGRD Headquarters Project, New London, Connecticut

EPA Region 2: Lafayette Yard Hotel and Conference Center, Trenton, New Jersey

EPA Region 3: South Side Works, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

EPA Region 4: A Riverfront Reclaimed, Louisville, Kentucky
