Public Art in Stockton - 'The Calaveras'
Municipal Utility Pump Stations

In a project designed to foster community participation and support and showcase ecological accomplishments, Wowhaus, the artist team of Scott Constable and Ene Osteraas-Constable, worked with students at Claudia Landeen Elementary and Amos Alonzo Stagg High schools to design images and glaze tiles for a large, colorful exterior art installation on two Municipal Utilities pump stations on Brookside Road.

The pump house art installation has transformed the buildings into a striking visual metaphor for a healthy river and ecosystem. 'The Calaveras' is a unique corrugated tile mural that features two spliced images on each wall for a dynamic, ever-changing effect.

Students in Stagg High art classes and GATE students from Claudia Landeen gained inspiration from field trips to the nearby Calaveras River, in addition to their association with a professional artist team.
