February 2006
30,000 Mattell cars make up
this piece of art on the west
side of the Stockton Arena
parking garage. The cars are
epoxied and urethane sealed
onto 4ft X 8ft sections. The
colorful pattern of the mounted
cars covers about two thirds
of the metal screen.
Napa artist Gordon Huether
was commissioned by the City
to create this art. Heuther
was awarded the commission
by the Public Art Jury in
2004, after winning a competition
for the project.
The cost of the project was $135,000. It was funded in accordance with the 2 percent for public art ordinance for redevelopment projects and capital improvement projects within the City.
