Dog & Cat Licenses
Dog and cat licenses are required in the City of Stockton for all dogs and cats over 6 months of age. Dog and cat owners are required to license their dogs and cats within 30 days after:
- The dog or cat becomes 6 months old
- A dog or cat over 6 months of age is acquired
- The dog or cat and owner move here from out of town
Late Fee
There is a $31.50 late fee if the dog or cat is not licensed within 30
days.
Checklist for Obtaining a Dog License
- Completed form
(pdf)
- Copy of current valid rabies vaccination certificate (will not be returned)
- Fee - make checks payable to CITY OF STOCKTON (do not send cash)
- Copy of spay or neuter certificate, if applicable (will not be returned)

Lost Tags
To obtain a replacement tag, provide the following:
Name of dog or cat, owner's name, address and $8.25 for each tag ($2.25 for senior citizens).
You may provide the information in one of
two ways:
- By mail: City of Stockton, PO Box 1270, Stockton, CA 95201-1570
- In person: at Animal Control, 1575 S. Lincoln Street, Stockton,
CA 95206
Renewals
Your
pet's license must be renewed within 30
days of the license expiration date.
A renewal notice will be sent the month
prior to the expiration date.
