The
West End Redevelopment Project Area was originally
conceived and approved by the Redevelopment Agency in 1961 as
a commercial development project. It was a nine-block area
with Stockton's most depressed portion of downtown, including
Weber Point and the area around McLeod Lake.
The
project area has been amended three times over the years.
The most recent expansion occurred in 1991 and the Amended West
End Redevelopment Project now encompasses an area in Downtown
Stockton bounded by Park Street to the north, Sacramento Street
to the east, the
Crosstown
Freeway to the south, and Interstate 5 and Yosemite Street to
the west.
Much
of the recent work in this area has focused on Stockton's waterfront
and the head of the Stockton Channel.
