SWIMMING POOL DISCHARGE & MAINTENANCE TIPS

Summer means fun in the sun and the swimming pool! It also means lots of pool cleaning time, too! In an effort to keep our storm drains clean and free flowing, the City of Stockton (Municipal Code, Section 7-089.9) prohibits discharging of pool water into the storm drain system including filter backwash water.

Pool water should only be discharged into the sewer clean-out where water will be treated before it's discharged into the Delta. There is no additional sewer service charge to do so. For assistance in locating a clean-out, residents should contact the Service Center at 937-8341.

New swimming pools may be filled at any time. Existing pools may only be drained and refilled between October 1st and June 1st. The City codes prohibit draining and refilling pools at any other time. Chlorine is harmful to aquatic habitat!   Pool water contains chlorine and bacteria which is harmful to aquatic habitat.

For more pollution prevention tips, call 937-8791.

REMEMBER
Only Rain Down the Drain!
