If You're Caught Dumping...

Stockton Municipal Code SMC Sec 7-052 Deposit of Garbage states it is unlawful for any person to throw or deposit any recyclable material, green waste, garbage, or rubbish upon any street, alley, gutter, park, or other public way...or upon any vacant lot or in any water or waterway or upon the levees or banks.

Anyone caught dumping may be charged with an infraction or misdemeanor. An infraction will carry the following fines:

  • First offense – Not to exceed $100
  • Second offense – Not exceed $250
  • Third offense – Not to exceed $500

If charged as a misdemeanor, the punishment is not to exceed $1,000 or 6 months in jail.

To report illegal dumping, please call the emergency number at (209) 937-8341  24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Proper ways to dispose of the pollutants would be:

Take used oil to a nearby gas station or auto parts dealer that accepts used oil.  Left over paints, thinners, chemicals, batteries and used oil are also accepted at the permanent Household Hazardous Waste Facility.

For more specific information, call (209) 937-8705.
