Runoff from gutters, basements and other sources should be
directed onto grass and gravel to slow the velocity of water
running into the storm system and naturally filter the water.
Increase the amount of permeable surfaces around your home.
Use wooden decking, bricks or stones for driveways, walkways
and other outdoor areas, instead of solid paving.
To eliminate the need for chemical control of termites, pile
wood away from the house.
Do not build, pave, park or drive over septic system's
drainage field. Plant trees and shrubs away from drain tiles.
Disposal Practices:
Don't pour solvents, toxic chemicals or grease down the drain.
They can inhibit the system's ability to break down waste.
Instead, take them to the
Permanent Household
Hazardous Waste Facility. You may also call
468-3066 for dates,
times and locations of future collection events.
Have septic tanks inspected every year and pumped out every
3-5 years.
Septic system cleaning products which contain methylene
chloride or 1,1,1-trichloroethane should not be used.
Never discharge pool or spa water to a storm drain.
Chlorinated water is toxic to wildlife in ponds, rivers or
streams. It must be disposed of through the sanitary sewer
system. If unable to locate cleanout, contact the City's
Service Center at (209) 937-8341 for assistance.
Do not dispose of pet waste in the storm drain. Pick up after
pets and dispose of wastes in the toilet or garbage.

Joaquin County Solid Waste at 468-3066.
