City of Stockton Grants Program
Low-Income Housing
One of the primary focuses of the City of Stockton's Housing Department is low income housing. The City receives entitlement grant money every year to help support the program, allowing the City to offer a wide project base. The money comes from several Federal and State grant programs and are as follows:
- The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development funds are used to eliminate blight and slums, down payment assistance and provide affordable housing and services to low income residents. CDBG grants over the last five years have totaled over $24 Million.
The U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development's (HUD) Home Investment Partnership (HOME) program helps to provide affordable housing and down payment assistance to low income residents. The City uses these funds to acquire, construct or to re-habilitate homes conjunction with for-profit developers or non-profit Community Housing Development Organizations. HOME funding to the City of Stockton has totaled $11.3 Million over five years.
- Emergency Shelter Grant money from HUD, is used to provide shelter and services to the homeless residents of the Stockton area. Over the last five years the City has received $900,000 to pay for such services.
The CalHOME program is a grant program similar to the HUD HOME program but is granted by the State of California Housing & Community Development Department. The money is used to provide affordable housing, down payment assistance and special financing programs to low income families. The City of Stockton has received $1.5 Million over the last three years from the CalHOME program.
