City of Stockton Grants ProgramEducation![]() The Children’s Museum of Stockton has long been a popular destination for families and field trips in the area. The museum provides an educational experience from the moment young visitors step through the door, the museum features hands-on, play-based exhibits that will enhance a child's understanding of how the world works. The museum features over a dozen different child-sized environments that recreate the ambience of a small city where merchants, bankers and doctors might mingle among the grocery shoppers, fast food customers and canning crew. Museum directors and Parks & Recreation staff felt that is was important to feature and exhibit showcasing the unique qualities of the San Joaquin Delta Region. To fund the Delta Region Exhibit, the museum was able to receive a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in the amount of $98,500. After School & Summer ProgramsOver the years the Parks & Recreation Department has made after school and summer programs a key focus, thus providing a place to keep kids safe and out of trouble while their parents work. To administer these programs the department receives much of its funding from appropriations from both the Federal and State governments, however, on several occasions the department has looked to grants for help. Of these a few key grants include; $2,500 from the California Arts Council for the Summer Arts Program, $822,000 from the U.S. Department of Education for two years of after school program funding at various school site, a total of $1.42 Million from the California Department of Education’s After School Education Safety (ASES) program for 7 years of funding, and $295,279 from the San Joaquin County-Human Services Agency for a year of funding.
