Building Permit fees are based on the "valuation" of your project. The valuation is the total value of all construction work for which the permit is issued, as well as all finish work, painting, roofing, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, elevators, and fire extinguishing systems--and any other permanent equipment (see Stockton Municipal Code Section 13-304.
To Estimate your project valuation:
1. Determine the occupancy classification (use of the building).
2. Determine the type of construction (definitions for Types of Construction are
found in the 2001 California Building Code, and have been attached to the City's
"Building Valuation Table").
3. Determine the unit cost for the project (found in the "Building Valuation
Table"), based on the answers to step 1 and step 2.
4. Multiply the unit cost (step 3) by the number of square feet in your project.
Typical unit cost values for residential construction per square feet are:
- Dwelling (Good) - Type V Wood Frame w/air conditioning=$108.84
- Residential Porches/Patios=$16.11
- Residential Decks and Balconies=$16.11
- Private Residential Wood Frame Garage=$30.48
- Private Residential Carport=$20.82
For a complete list of commercial and residential unit costs, refer to the "Building Valuation Table".
Once you have estimated your project valuation, input this amount under "Valuation" in the Residential or Commercial Permit Fee Estimator.
