Cultural Heritage Board
Award of Excellence Program - Criteria

 

Objective:
The Award of Excellence Program is intended to encourage improvement and beautification in our community, create awareness toward building preservation and maintenance, and promote imagination and sensitivity in the design of new construction.

Procedure:
Award of Excellence nominations are solicited and generated by the Cultural Heritage Board. The Board reviews nominations and submits its recommendations to the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission reviews the Cultural Heritage Board's recommendations at a public meeting and makes its selections.
The Community Development Department prepares the Awards of Excellence, and the Planning Commission presents the Awards to the respective recipients at the subsequent public meeting.

Criteria:
Awards of Excellence nominations will be evaluated on the following basis:

1. Existing structures--residential and nonresidential

a) Restoration/rehabilitation/preservation
b) Improvements and additions
c) Color scheme and texture
d) Maintenance
e) Landscaping
2. New Construction--residential and nonresidential
a) Design
b) Construction
c) Color scheme and texture
d) Maintenance
e) Landscaping
3. Other structures or sites--parks, parking lots, landscaped areas, etc.
a) Design
b) Materials
c) Color scheme and texture
d) Maintenance
e) Landscaping

General Guidelines:

  1. Restoration or construction must be essentially complete at the time of nomination, with landscaping in place,
  2. The restoration or construction must be truly outstanding in nature,
  3. The property must be judged to exert a positive influence on the neighborhood and/or community and provide an incentive to other property owners.
